Relocating · PCSing to Fort Bragg

Moving to Moore County? I was you.

You're not just finding a house. You're also figuring out school registration timing, enrollment paperwork, and what the commute actually feels like at drop-off and pickup. I know because I've done it.

That's what I think about when I'm helping families find a home here, because I'm living it too.

Military orders and buying

Buying on orders

01

VA loan basics. No down payment for eligible borrowers and no PMI. I'll connect you with lenders experienced in VA underwriting and entitlement.

02

BAH as a baseline. Use your BAH as a starting point for your monthly budget, then confirm it against real property taxes and any HOA fees.

03

Rent vs. buy. It often comes down to how long you expect to be stationed here. I'm happy to talk through the math for your timeline.

04

Buy before you arrive. With video tours and remote closings, many families close before they ever set foot in Moore County.

Your PCS timeline

Step by step

House hunting trip. Most service members can request permissive TDY to house hunt, and it isn't charged against leave.

Temporary lodging. TLE can bridge the gap between arriving and closing day.

Timing your closing. Line it up with your report date and household goods delivery.

Your first 30 days. Utilities, NC license and registration, DEERS, and childcare waitlists.

Entitlements change, so confirm current PTDY and TLE rules with your finance and transportation offices.

Good to know

School and childcare deadlines come early

Kindergarten registration, charter lotteries, Pre-K intake, and daycare waitlists mostly happen in winter and spring. If you're moving this summer, some of them happen before you arrive.

Your address is your school. Assignment is based on your home address, so we'll verify the zoned school before you buy.

Get on waitlists now. Many infant and toddler programs have them, so join as soon as you know your move date.

The full timeline is in the guide, with dates for public kindergarten, NC Pre-K, charter lotteries, and private preschool.
